College admissions coaching for Bay Area families

Meridian is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. In-person sessions are available across the region, and virtual coaching works for families anywhere in the country.

Why the Bay Area is its own case

Bay Area high schools send an unusual number of students to the most selective colleges, and admissions readers know it. A student from Palo Alto, Cupertino, Fremont, or San Francisco is often compared against classmates with similar grades, similar activities, and similar essays. Standing out inside that group takes more than another AP course.

The UC system adds a second track. UC applications have their own deadline (November 30), their own four Personal Insight Questions, and no letters of recommendation. Families who treat the UCs as an afterthought to the private-school list usually regret it. Berkeley and UCLA now admit fewer than 12 percent of applicants.

How in-person coaching works

• Sessions in the city or on the Peninsula, scheduled around the student's week.
• Parent strategy calls in person or by video, monthly.
• Text access between sessions for quick questions, on either coast's schedule.

Families who have started late and need the essay sprint track. Meridian takes 8 students per season, so every family works directly with Ronald, a Yale graduate and engineer at a leading Silicon Valley tech company.

Timeline for a Bay Area senior

1. August: school list finalized, personal statement drafted.
2. September: UC Personal Insight Questions drafted, early application supplements started.
3. October: everything for November 1 submitted a week early. Recommenders confirmed.
4. November: UC application submitted before November 30. Regular decision supplements continue.
5. December to January: early results, regular decision submissions, interview prep.
